Electrical Engineer

HOTSTART, Inc. has an opening for an Electrical Engineer based from our corporate headquarters in Spokane, Washington. We are looking for a highly qualified candidate to join our product development team and participate in efforts to expand our products for engine heating and develop products for new markets.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Participation in new product development and improvement activities with emphasis on electrical controls and circuit design
  • Manage project timelines and budgets to ensure required schedules are met
  • Establish electrical system design requirements and validate that final designs meet all criteria
  • Produce electrical engineering documentation such as panel and PCB schematic drawings, harness drawings, and operation and troubleshooting guides
  • Assist manufacturing and quality teams with test programs and methods
  • Identify new electrical technologies for applicability to existing products and new development projects
  • Learn HOTSTART products and features and play an active role in production support, field support, and continuous improvement activities
  • Availability and willingness to travel on occasion (valid passport required)

Ideal candidates will have the following skills:

  • Advanced understanding of engineering principles and tools including circuit design, controls standards, signal processing, circuit and system modeling, and system reliability
  • Hands-on experience designing and troubleshooting printed circuit boards
  • Experience designing and qualifying industrial scale electrical components and systems for cost, reliability and manufacturability
  • Experience with IoT, embedded microcontrollers, SAE J1939, CAN bus or other communication protocols, common embedded peripherals, and product firmware development
  • Experience with safety and regulatory requirements for North America, Europe, and Asia (including NEC, UL, CE/IEC)
  • Experience with Altium design software (or similar)
  • Strong communication and computer skills required (language skills beyond English are valued)
  • Willingness to actively participate in hands-on testing, troubleshooting, and prototyping of design concepts
  • Self-starter motivated to look for opportunities to improve HOTSTART's products and manage development projects
  • Capable of working independently and building strong cross-functional relationships within HOTSTART
  • Willingness to continue to learn and use new processes and technology to solve complex technical problems


  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering
  • 5 or more years demonstrated professional experience in product design and product development for a wide variety of projects
